Well, hello there, kind folks. If you’re visiting this blog of mine, I presume that you have a certain interest in the cinema. As for me, even since my early childhood, I have had a deep love of everything related to movies and television. As far as I can remember, I have been more at ease in front of a screen than in the yard, outside, playing. It is a great way to travel, though other people’s stories, without having to foot any kind of steep bill. Over the years, I feel that movie-watching has even fuelled my own creativity.

All that being said, I welcome you in my Cinephile’s Nest. I hope you enjoy it here, feel free to come back at any time. Here you will find reviews of current movies and older ones. TV shows also. Some classics that have remained some of my favourites, some that have disappointed me. I will use a very basic star (*) system to grade them from 1 to 5 (5 being sliced bread level). Remember, these are just my tastes. I will try to explain in each review what I liked about these particular movies, without giving spoilers.

I welcome you all here, enjoy yourself.

Shameless - UK (2004-2013)

Genre: TV / Comedy / Drama
Starring: David Threlfall, Anne-Marie Duff, Annabelle Apsion, Maggie O’Neill
Number of seasons: 11

As the show starts, we focus on the dysfunctional Gallagher family, a working class family from a fictional estate in Manchester, England. The patriarch, Frank Gallagher, does more drinking than working, and his eldest kid, Fiona, takes care of the younger ones since the mother left home. As the seasons go on, the focus is slowly shifted to the Maguires, a family of criminals that move in next door to the Gallaghers.

This show started strong, but, as time went on, characters left and new ones came. The new characters were not always as strong and interesting as the original ones. There was a clear lack of focus, with too many characters. It became hard to follow, so I sort of lost interest as it went on. At least, it ended strong, with some of the original people coming back for the last episode. They probably should have cut on the number of seasons and focused the story more. When it was about the Gallaghers, it was really interesting. Some of the Maguire stuff was too. But, the rest was meh at best.
