Running time: 137 minutes
Freddie Quell is a WWII vet having a hard time adjusting upon his
return to society. During a voyage at sea, he crosses the path of Lancaster Dodd,
the leader of a philosophical movement called The Cause. Dodd takes Quell under
his wing as his protégé, as the former soldier starts to identify with The
Cause.
This film is extremely psychology charged and a lot to take, but it
carried masterfully on screen by the director and the three main actors.
Phoenix, Hoffman and Adams all manage to make you forget the thespians that
they are and they make you believe in their character.
I will most likely give this one another shot, down the line, as it
is heavy to grasp in one sitting.
