Well, hello there, kind folks. If you’re visiting this blog of mine, I presume that you have a certain interest in the cinema. As for me, even since my early childhood, I have had a deep love of everything related to movies and television. As far as I can remember, I have been more at ease in front of a screen than in the yard, outside, playing. It is a great way to travel, though other people’s stories, without having to foot any kind of steep bill. Over the years, I feel that movie-watching has even fuelled my own creativity.

All that being said, I welcome you in my Cinephile’s Nest. I hope you enjoy it here, feel free to come back at any time. Here you will find reviews of current movies and older ones. TV shows also. Some classics that have remained some of my favourites, some that have disappointed me. I will use a very basic star (*) system to grade them from 1 to 5 (5 being sliced bread level). Remember, these are just my tastes. I will try to explain in each review what I liked about these particular movies, without giving spoilers.

I welcome you all here, enjoy yourself.

The Dukes of Hazzard (2005)

Genre: Comedy
Directed by: Jay Chandrasekhar
Cast: Johnny Knoxville, Seann William Scott, Jessica Simpson, Burt Reynolds, Willie Nelson
Running time: 106 minutes

Cousins Bo, Luke and Daisy Duke go through life making and selling moonshine with their uncle Jesse, all the while fighting off the constant torment from commissionner Boss Hogg and Sheriff Roscoe Coltrane. When the cousins find out that Boss Hogg is planning on strip mining Hazzard county, they have to work together to stop him…and win a stock-car race.

This adaptation of the famous TV show from the 70’s and 80’s is a very lame one, if we are to put it bluntly. I have always been a fan of Seann William Scott, and I popped for a moment to see Willie Nelson as an actor. And Jessica Simpson is cute in cutoff jeans, though probably not much of an ideal conversation partner. Unfortunately, the material they were given was nothing special. It was unfunny drivel used as an excuse to tie together some car chases.

I thought it was a nice touch to have people react to the General Lee’s confederate flag when the boys visit the big city. Times have changed since the original TV show, and it was cool to incorporate that. The pointless nudity when Bo and Luke visit the university campus was also fun. But, none of that was enough to make this film a good one. Skip it, unless you are sucker for the things this movie has to offer.
